SourceToDocs turns structured data into branded PDF documents. In this library it builds the quote that goes out after a walkthrough or site visit: the workflow posts the numbers, SourceToDocs returns a finished PDF on your letterhead, and n8n emails it the same day. It is built by 2V Automation, the team behind this library.
What you need
- A SourceToDocs account. The Starter tier at $19 per month covers the quoting volume of a single system, which is the figure the cost tables carry as of 2026.
- A quote template set up in your SourceToDocs workspace. More on this in the gotcha below.
- A running n8n instance.
- Roughly 10 minutes for the connection itself.
Get the API key
- Sign in to SourceToDocs.
- Open the workspace settings and go to the API keys section.
- Create a key, label it “n8n”, and copy it. The full value is displayed once at creation.
- Store it in your password manager before closing the dialog.
Create the credential in n8n
The auto-quote workflow calls the documents endpoint with a bearer token, so the credential is a generic Header Auth entry.
- Credentials, Add credential, choose Header Auth.
- Name:
Authorization. - Value:
Bearerfollowed by the key, with one space between them. - Save it under the name “SourceToDocs LGL”. The imported workflow binds to that name automatically.
Test it
- Add an HTTP Request node to a blank workflow.
- Method POST, URL
https://sourcetodocs.com/api/v1/documents. - Authentication: Generic Credential Type, Header Auth, “SourceToDocs LGL”.
- Body: JSON with your template id and a couple of sample field values.
- Execute the step.
The response contains a document id and a download URL for the rendered PDF. Open the URL and check the sample values landed in the right places on the page. A 401 points at the header value; a validation error naming a field points at a mismatch between the body and the template, which brings us to the gotcha.
Cost and one gotcha
$19 per month on Starter. The gotcha is doing the template last. The API maps workflow fields to named placeholders in your template, so if the template does not exist yet, or a field was renamed, generation fails at the worst moment: right after a walkthrough when the prospect is warmest. Build the template first, run one test generation with dummy data, and only then activate the auto-quote workflow. Re-test after any template edit.
Where the library uses SourceToDocs
Systems with a quoting step, commercial cleaning being the clearest example: the crew lead submits a short form after the walkthrough, the workflow computes pricing, and SourceToDocs produces the branded quote PDF that goes to the prospect the same day while the CRM deal moves to quoted.
